Total
System for Month: Total California
American Water (Cal-Am) system production for June was 1,525 acre-feet (AF),
nearly equivalent to the anticipated goal of 1,527 AF, as shown on the
accompanying table (Exhibit 23-A).
The 1,525 AF of production in June represents a 12 percent savings from
Cal-Am's base year (i.e., Water Year 1988) production of 1,742 AF.
Total
System, Water Year to Date: Total
system production for the 2004 Water Year (WY) through June 30, 2004 has been
10,772 AF. The anticipated production
of 10,913 AF for this same period is based on an annual goal of 15,285 AF from
the Cal-Am system, and includes 398 AF of production that was anticipated for
injection into the Seaside Basin.
Monthly production goals are calculated by multiplying total annual
production (15,285 AF) times the average fraction of annual production for each
month (based on production data from 1988 to 1997). It should be noted that the total system production of 10,772 AF
includes 160 AF that were produced from the Lower Carmel Valley, and injected
into the Seaside Basin. The 160 AF of
injection water were not produced for customer use and do not count against the
SWRCB Order 95-10 diversion limit.
Without the 160 AF, Cal-Am’s year-to-date system production is 10,612
AF, which is 96 AF or 0.9 percent greater than the year-to-date at month-end
target that has been set based on Order 95-10.
Ground
Water Production: During June, 22 AF
were produced from Cal-Am wells in the Upper Carmel Valley. This production was 27 percent less than the
anticipated production of 30 AF. Lower
Carmel Valley well production was 935 AF, one percent less than the anticipated
production of 947 AF. In June, 568 AF
were produced by Cal-Am from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, three
percent more than the anticipated production of 550 AF.
Surface
Water Production: In June, no water
was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from San Clemente
Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was anticipated. The total diversion through the CVFP for WY
2004 has been zero AF, or zero percent of total system production. Average
release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during June was 14 cubic feet
per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.
The
anticipated river flow, storage values and production goals were developed
jointly by the District, Cal-Am, and the California Department of Fish and Game
in consultation with NOAA Fisheries.
Cal-Am and District staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and
water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant. Please refer to Exhibit 23-A for additional information
regarding Cal-Am production in June 2004.
